Neighboring state, but they were really starting to go crazy in Kansas right before that cold snap a few weeks ago. I noticed a smattering of males on... Monday(?), but I'm not really sure what happens to a flight that gets interrupted by surprise weather changes.

I too, am curious about this, I caught my queens more than a month ago, now I am curious if they will even attempt to fly again this year. I have gonna back to the same locations where I was really successful with similar weather in the low seventies and I have not seen them fly again. I hope they do not just fly for once a year

Haven't seen any nuptial flights in northern Illinois - I tried hunting every day during when it warmed up a month ago, but no luck.  My backyard has at least several colonies of them and I see them walking around every time I go out - no luck seeing a nuptial flight yet, though.  It even rained the day before and got up to 80 last Friday, but still no signs.

Around the 18th of March they where in the fridge for about three months

It's required for all ants, except in the tropics.

In Wisconsin, me and a buddy haven't been able to find a single queen. Mainly just workers.

These guys just flew here about two weeks ago in Wyoming, Lots and lots of claustral chambers everywhere and I'm itching to dig one up. Problem is I'm not good at finding the queen after!

Nice, they can nest a few inches down for a claustral chamber. However, as soon as they get a small workforce, they'll dig further down. I would dig one up as soon as possible. Just dig one shovel-full, then, break it up into small pieces. If you don't find the queen, dig a few more times until you do.

 

Hopefully, the queens haven't laid eggs yet.

We'll be looking for N. fulva, C. chromaoides, T. sessile and, of course, Prenolepis imparis flights on Tuesday. Thank you global warming.

I Am pretty confident they will fly. Supposed to be in sixties seventies and eighties three days in a row for 4/10-12.

These finally flew yesterday in northern Illinois - I caught 12 queens total over about 2.5-3 hours or so in my backyard.

I did notice that the days before they flew all the nest entrances had freshly dug dirt outside of the entrance and in a couple of them I could see some males going in/out of the nest. They were mostly flying around a pile of sticks/branches and pretty much found them all over the place in the yard.

Congratulations! In Philly we have 80s today and tomorrow so we will be looking out for the tail end of the Prenolepis imparis season.

Thanks - it was really cool to see them running around everywhere and flying.  I plan on possibly trying to find more today - good luck in Philly, that sounds like they could definitely start flying.

In Northwest Ohio, I was able to collect 3 today, on Tennis Courts.
