So, I've had my queen since September. She got some workers but they all died in hibernation. :(

Anyway, she has pupae, larvae, and eggs now. I'll post some pics as soon as she gets workers, which will be in the next week or so.

Thanks!

Do you have photos?
I would like to know what kind of Crematogaster you are raising.

She currently has 5 workers, and I plan to create an outworld for them soon. :D

Woohoo! she's doing great with 10-15 workers. Here's them drinking honey.

I gave this colony away a while ago, but in August, I caught three queens and gave away two. I now have the one queen with a decent batch of eggs.

Here are some pictures.

I'll update this journal when the queen gets pupae or workers.

I'm really jealous. I've been searching for Crematogaster since I started antkeeping, and yet I've never found any.

Hope the queen does well!

This queen has finally gotten pupae! She has 2 of them. She also has a few large larvae and a small batch of eggs. I'm super excited that I might get another colony of these cool ants.

Here's a few pictures.

I'll update this when she gets workers.

When you're proud of having some queen ants and then you realize you don't have Crematogaster.... and you just feel empty inside.... the joys of ant keeping...

Aphaenogaster cf. rudis

Tetramorium immigrans

Tapinoma sessile

Formica subsericea

Pheidole sp.

Camponotus nearcticus

Crematogaster sure are a popular species huh? Great colony btw, can't wait till they get workers.

Nice! One of my queens just got their first crematogaster workers and its one of the cutest things I have ever seen. It's pale gray with big black eyes, but short and stout legs and antennae. It's just sitting on top of the area where the heat mat, just keeping itself warm while the queen's near the moist cotton at the other end. I can't wait for the colony to grow, I plan on moving them into a (hopefully) arboreal setup, although all the crematogaster workers I find are terrestrial.

How would you go about making the arboreal setup? And ya, I've never seen Crematogaster nesting anywhere but the ground and occasionally rotting wood

I'm not 100 percent sure but probably use some hollow sticks ir bamboo poles.

Nanitics! She got her first workers about a week ago, and has four right now. I fed them a drop of sugar water. There are a few more workers bound to eclose in the next week or so.

They're pretty fast, here's a video of them running around. You could see trophalaxis happening between the worker and the queen in the end!

This colony is now at 8 workers, and the queen has just laid more eggs and has small larvae. I fed them a pinhead cricket today.

Here's them drinking sugar water.

Here's trophalaxis between a queen and worker.

Workers ripping legs of the dead cricket and worker feeding the larvae.

They're out of water, and their test tube is dirty. Therefore they'll be in a new tube for the next update.

I finally got them to move before I went on vacation for a few days. I came back to see the queen without a head. That'll conclude this journal until I get another one in the fall.

Wow, that's weird. Do you think the workers did it?

I don't know, I don't think they did. Sometimes the queens die of this species, and it happens really sudden. The workers probably tried to move the body.
