(yes I'm just posting an imgur link since i took like 20 pics)

Ants are solid black, much smaller than a T. sessile worker. Seem to be built like a bullet ant. They were caught in a log on 2/17/17 at ~6pm

It's hard to tell with that picture, but it reminds me of Apheanogaster.

Hit "Like This" if it helped.

It's too difficult to say, through that cloudy plastic. The lighting needs to be better as well.

If you've enjoyed using my expertise and identifications, please do not create undue ecological risk by releasing your ants. The environment which we keep our pet insects is alien and oftentimes unsanitary, so ensure that wild populations stay safe by giving your ants the best care you can manage for the rest of their lives, as we must do with any other pet.

Exotic ants are for those who think that vibrant diversity is something you need to pay money to see. It is illegal to transport live ants across state lines.

Black lives still matter.

I am now in possession of these particular ants.  Tried to get a good picture but this is the best I could get with my low-res microscope.  Maybe it will help?

Workers are around 2.5mm and the queen is only slightly larger, maybe 3-3.5mm.

I'm going to agree it is Leptothorax.. thanks everyone! no idea what subspecies though... it seems they are even more rare than my Camponotus Near.
