Asides from its informational value, this can be quite beautiful to watch.

If you've enjoyed using my expertise and identifications, please do not create undue ecological risk by releasing your ants. The environment which we keep our pet insects is alien and oftentimes unsanitary, so ensure that wild populations stay safe by giving your ants the best care you can manage for the rest of their lives, as we must do with any other pet.

Exotic ants are for those who think that vibrant diversity is something you need to pay money to see. It is illegal to transport live ants across state lines.

You guys are lucky, I'm expecting just straight Snow for the next two if not three months. I won't get any ant Flights until May.

I was thinking the same thing, hahaha.  However we are having a good warm spell right now, very enjoyable.   But anting season is way off.

Same boat here too. Last year I didn't really see any ants until about April... so still have a ways to go.

A kid on reddit from MI asked for help with his ants, took them out of hibernation this weekend as "It was 70 degrees and doesn't snow much here anymore anyways" ;)

Same, I won't be getting any queens for at least at a bare minimum of 3 months.

There was a Camponotus castaneus flight in Florida a little while ago. The southernmost states get opportunistic winter nuptial flights.

When mentioning an ant for the first time, please be sure to spell out the whole genus before abbreviating, to minimize confusion. ;)

I mean, I won't even mention the "invicta", but with Crematogaster, it at least looked like you were trying.

I mean if I wasn't going to try why write the post? Yeah I understand though but the I wasn't trying part? (True that there are people who just came into anting that don't know what C. is)

Sorry, I meant no offense! It's just a good habit to describe the species' full name, first, then abbreviate with the first one or two letters of the genus after that. Things can get messy if the genus is excluded entirely (like if I want to talk about "nearcticus", am I referring to Camponotus nearcticus or Lasius nearcticus?)

Oh no no I wasn't offended just saying that was a little too harsh. I understand 100% though.
