Hello, I wanted to share my new formicarium that I plan to move my Camponotus colony soon. I would like opinions on it, thanks.

OBS: I tried to make something like the THA nests.

Looks really fancy nice job :D

Just curious how large is the Camponotus Colony you will be putting into it? With such a large setup a small colony might just end up using some chambers as junk yards causing mold growth [among other things]

So, few questions. WHat material was this, and how did you make the holes? drill?

Best formicarium ever! Maybe better than THA.....

Will you make one for your leaf cutter ants too?

This formicarium is not that big, it's around 20cm x 16cm, but the colony is with 20 workers at the moment. I was thinking about using a smaller formicarium but I don't know how I would make them leave it to go to this one, so I was thinking about using the big one right away.

So, few questions. WHat material was this, and how did you make the holes? drill?

It's cellular concrete(Ytong). I used regular wood drills, old drills because the Ytong kinda damage it.

Yes, I have one planned but I'm having trouble finding some glass drills that would fit the tubing that I want to use. The leafcutter setup would use in the start 3 glass boxes very similar to that one in the photo that is used as the outworld.

Thanks for all the answers guys, really thanks.

20cm x 16cm is quite big, actually. The THA fortress formicaria are only 4" x 4" (in.)

Hit "Like This" if it helped.

Yeah, I feel that like with 50 workers they would do the same as with 20, they wouldn't fill it very well even with 50 workers.

AAC, or autoclaved aerated concrete, ytong, and hebel block are all the same thing. Preferred vernacular varies by region.

Looks great, but I will say this.  THA carved nests have built in hydration systems that work nearly flawlessly.  I have 3 large colonies right now and all are being kept in THA nests (Nucleus).  Terry calls them bricks but they are good looking effective bricks!  I am upgrading my Novomessors to a Dire Pinnacle

Current Colonies;

Acromyrmex Versicolor

Dorymyrmex Bicolor

Pogonomyrmex Californicus
Pogonomyrmex Rugosus

Pogonomyrmex Tenuispinus
Novomessor Cockerelli
Myrmecocystus Mexicanus

I also have the built in hydration system, check the tubing coming out of the nest, there's a reservoir inside.

I decided to move them in. They moved very fast into the formicarium and changed the brood positions some times(some times dividing the brood between 2 or 3 chambers), they seem to be doing well, they are already eating a mealworm that I placed and carried some pieces inside.
