Quick question. Why is Myrmecocystus testaceus an advanced species? What is so hard about it? It's the only honeypot that lives in my area so I might buy some.

Seeing as you are living in Washington state buying these from him would be unlikely.

I classify Myrmecocystus as advanced mainly because moving them has to be done manually in my experience, as they sometimes do not like to move in captivity, even if it means staying until the nest dries up and they all die. Moving manually is even harder with them also because of all the repletes. They are very delicate.

Seeing as you are living in Washington state buying these from him would be unlikely.

 

Well since Myrmecocystus testaceus is native to my area so I might catch a queen.

No. I mean ship them to a place in california then personally ship them by usps ground to my area. It is kind of illegal but they live in my state so.. Not spreading invasives.

What changed your mind? Your journal made it seem like you made a lot of progress and the custom formicarium worked great. Is it just too much effort to keep? I ask because I want to give it a go waking up at 3am to drive out and catch a flight in summer to get the fungus pellet after cheeto's video. If a professional like you doesn't want to keep them I was wondering why, just in case the reason is something I should be concerned about as well. Also I'm just sad that I won't get to see more journal updates from you.
