Hi All

My I said in on the member's introduction my son Jack has just started getting into ants after stumbling across some videos on YouTube. He is now just started his setup and has his first Queen (Lasius Niger), which is currently hibernating or should be. He has made  couple of videos of his progress. Here is the first one. (Now has all the bits for the setup). Apologies for the ending that was Jack's idea.

Hope that worked

Hi All, well Jack's queen is doing well, although she is suppose to be hibernating but on our weekly checks she seem fairly active? Should we put a drop of sugar water in the test tube? Anyway tomorrow Jack and myself start his first home made nest project. He will Vlog it whatever the outcome (good or bad) so will post later. Final just so they are all in the same place here is his Vlog #3

The temperature may be too high. 45F is just about right.

Hi All

Here is Jack's latest vlog, glad to say his Lasius Niger Queen is now hibernating. To give us something Ant wise ot do we had a go at building a "home made" nest. Mainly me I'm afraid.

Thanks

I like it, I like everything about it too! :D You did a better job than I did on my first one so no worries, It really does look okay.  I am not sure how well your hydration will work, also what kind of paint did you use?

Nice birds by the way. :)

Thanks, used child safe paints, so hoping this will be ok. Birds are mine ants are Jacks. Breed and exhibit them.  Thanks again for your comments as always once you've made one you think of a better way of doing it. So here to the next one. :D

Hi All,

Here is Jack's latest vlog, and with his Lasius Niger Queen still in hibernation he's been reading his Christmas present. So in this video he reviews the Ants Canada Ultimate Guide to Ant Keeping. See what he thinks of. (Sorry about the pig).

Hi All

Here is Jack's 6th vlog, (has it really been six months!), With the weather warming up it was time to see if Jack's Lasius Niger Queen made it through the winter. In this vlog Jack's takes Queen "Elizabeth" out of hibernation. Her test tube is getting very dirty and nearly out of water so he'll need to move her to  new set up. hoiw does he do? and how does she fair?

Hi All

Time for Jack's monthly update. His Lasius Niger queen is doing well after coming out of hibernation, and has finally start her new colony. with her first batch of eggs laid its time to review the stages of an ant's life. From egg to ant, with the help of his drawings Jack explains as only he can.
