Update: 8/31/2014

This colony is finally thriving again, I gave them fruitflies which worked wonderfully , they are finally looking well fed. The brood are dark inside with all the food they got.

Update: 9/1/14

I confirmed the 3 that I though may be Pheidole, were indeed these as well. Out of those three, two of those now have nanatics, and the third is about to get her first one. All three have massive brood piles with pupae that are starting to get pigment, showing they will eclose soon.

The largest colony I have of these is still doing fine, happily consuming 2-3 fruitflies every day, now up to about 15 workers, and their first medium worker has arrived a few days ago!

Update: 9/3/2014

The final queen got workers today, meaning all three of the ones from Joshua Tree National Park got workers in exactly one day under a month. I am curious how I am going to handle 4 mature colonies of these guys... I am in for a challenge.  :D

The largest colony had their third generation of workers eclose, getting two more medium workers and a few more minors, growing the population to about over twenty. The large colony is eating about 3 fruitflies per day, and they have a massive midden pile. There are no mites visable in the midden pile so it seems I got rid of them.  :)

Spinning out of control, the mite population in the black species which I now think is Formica, got the second generation of mites. The colony was wiped out within twelve hours of thr first mite hatching. It actually takes a weight off my back, because that was the last colony infected with the mites, who still have not been seen the Solenopsis colony. So now I do not have to worry about these mites spreading. The last trial for my ants this year is me being gone for the two days on the scuba diving trip, which I am on the way to right now.
