catch?
Those ants were a small species. Too small for me I'm afraid.
This Leptomyrmex darlingtoni nest looks like it came straight out of a J.R.R.Tolkien fantasy novel.

Awesome pictures! I want to go hunting for ant nests too
There really is another universe hiding within our own.
Sometimes I ponder the smaller civilizations.
It seems to me that there is always a smaller organism.
If there is always a smaller and smaller civilization.
Could it be said that there are also civilizations bigger and bigger?
Hope this doesn't keep you up at night.

No I have always thought about how cool it was too
I think my chickens have eaten all of the ants in the yard. I need to go to the park and look I think
The chickens are wiping out my little civilizations lol
Chickens have a crazy ability to detect the smallest movements under the surface of the soil.
That's very true CrazyLegs!

I love trap jaw ants. I would have to move further north if I wanted to find one here.
I am in S.E. Qld near you and we get the false trapjaw ants around us. I have seen Anochetus graeffei on my property.
Here in Florida you can find them in the afternoon at 7 or 6 PM. Surprised you find them during school hours…I know this is really old, but...have those at my school, found queen

No offense, but they don’t seem fun to keep.
