Is it possible to make a sponge formicarium?

hi!

 

I have a whole lot of unused sponge at home, just wondering if you could make a formicarium out of the stuff

No, ants will bore a hole right through it.

How hard is it to rip a sponge? An ant is tearing little by little, and if I'm not mistaken, ghost ants are very tiny and very hard to contain.

I made a nest with a sponge when I started...... yeah the ants will either rip it up or if you put it inside a container will just tunnel away from your view. Also sponges collect some really nasty stuff, Basically just giving a breeding ground for all kinds of nasty.

Not a dumb question. Even small ants may be very destructive and capable of chewing through different materials, though.

A reminder to other members: this community contains antkeepers of all skill levels. The quest for knowledge includes failure. It is a disservice to our community to answer in a condescending tone. In many cases, multiple people may not know, but are too afraid to ask the "stupid question;" the one who asks the question may in fact be doing a service to those around them.
