If the image is one of the ant in question it is neither Pseudomyrmex or Solenopsis.

"The mother died of broncho aspiration, it is probable that the ants have bitten the trachea, which caused an inflammation and could no longer breathe,”

This could easily be the result of formic acid sprayed into the throat by any ants which got into the mouth/throat.

There are 2 petiole nodes and I don't think Myrmicinae spray Formic acid, I'm not sure though.

It even shows the stinger in the picture.

The picture that came with the article was the first "scary ant" the writer saw on the internet.

If you've enjoyed using my expertise and identifications, please do not create undue ecological risk by releasing your ants. The environment which we keep our pet insects is alien and oftentimes unsanitary, so ensure that wild populations stay safe by giving your ants the best care you can manage for the rest of their lives, as we must do with any other pet.

Exotic ants are for those who think that vibrant diversity is something you need to pay money to see. It is illegal to transport live ants across state lines.

Honestly, Fox is less biased than CNN.  But those comments are just crazy.

That is a difficult opinion to defend, my friend.  :D

I don't know, looks more like an Africanized honey bee to me.

I'm quite aware that Myrmica rubra is a notorious invasive species here, the image shown by the 24h news however is not Myrmica rubra, rather a Lasius species, most likely L.umbratus.

Might be, I didn't mean specifically with this story.

Ah... I can just imagine people freaking out over a harmless genus like Lasius stinging their children while they're playing.. they don't even have stingers!

That map is great. :D

I'm less concerned with attempts to attack the credibility of the two least inspiring presidential aspirates in recent memory, and more concerned with the omission or deliberate mishandling of all data which validates the claims that Fox News (and CNN) do not favor politically, something which literally kills people. Fox News just happen to be climate science and social support / social justice deniers.

Errrm, if we want to continue this, best to do it elsewhere.
