That's what I was thinking, as well as MILTA.
What was your location again Dermy?
Darn I forgot about that.
Canada Saskatchewan
Looks too small to be any Tetramorium I can think of. Maybe Stenamma sp. or possibly even Temnothorax sp. though it will be very very hard to ID with that picture. All I can see is a general shape and two petioles.
Yeah, a second look at the picture, the head does look a bit too elongated for Tetramorium.
Are these the polygynous ones?
No one has suggested Myrmica sp. yet? They've been flying like mad here in the northern Plains (US) lately.
3mm. Myrmica?
3mm. Myrmica?
That's a detail which I missed. Assuming the measurement is accurate (not a guess), then Stenamma is a good possibility.
Any way you can get a clearer picture Dermy?
Dermy, look at some pictures of Leptothorax. At 3mm, they fit the bill and fly pretty much whenever Myrmica fly.
This is not a Myrmica, too elongated and too small at 3mm.
To the best of my knowledge, Tetramorium and Stenamma are not found in Saskatchewan.
Saskatchewan has similar species as Alberta - http://www.antweb.or...nts&images=true

Hey guys sorry about the lack of updates, been busy.
Yes they are the polygyny ones [or however that is spelt ]
Myrmica doesn't work, too small and she/the workers in my area don't posses stingers.
I will try to get you better pics when I'm not so busy.
Crystals, I will take a look at Leptothorax, hopefully it looks similar.

Leptothorax seems like a good bet. I've never seen one in person before which is why they didn't come to mind, but after looking around online a bit I agree with Crystals.
I think my 3mm was a understatement I looked at a ruler [I never bothered to measure her ] and I think it's safe to say she is a lot bigger then 3mm.
It's always important to actually use a ruler and measure. Estimations can be way off sometimes.
Yeah in this case that was way off need to post a pic with a ruler next to it.
