Hi!

The other day, I saw a strange fat bug halfway down the throat of a dead frog. Upon further investigation, I figured out that it was a beetle grub. I saved it and named it Chester. Any experience on Scarab Grubs?

If it truly is a scarab larva it needs decomposing organic matter to grow (either decaying plants, carrion or poop, which one depends on the species, though probably tropical scarabs can eat all three). If you put it in a small dark container with enough organic matter to consume it will be happy and grow into a beetle quickly. Considering that you found it eating a frog dead animal parts or meat will probably work well (just don't feed meat that is too salty like sausage or jerky).

I think the frog was eating it then died. From the looks of it, a bike ran over it.. Yipes..

 

Also, I put it in some mulch and it ate a bit of one of the larger pieces.

I think that in the mainland there are June Bugs and Japanese Beetles. In Hawaii we have Oriental Flower Beetles and Coconut Rhinoceros Beetles. I think the time is probably an Oriental Flower Beetle.
