Ant colonies tend to favor a specific gender of alates to prevent inbreeding

Load the video to youtube and post the link, if you like. We'd appreciate watching it here.

When I see myrmica flights there are usually ~15 queens or ~80 males

I realize it's been around 2 months. But I just uploaded this video today of the Myrmica Rubra Nuptial flight. Sorry abut the video, not the best quality. I am going to take a photography course and buy a better camera. lol

I would leave Myrmica at the genus level unless you were to do an extensive ID. These look more like a native species.

If you've enjoyed using my expertise and identifications, please do not create undue ecological risk by releasing your ants. The environment which we keep our pet insects is alien and oftentimes unsanitary, so ensure that wild populations stay safe by giving your ants the best care you can manage for the rest of their lives, as we must do with any other pet.

Exotic ants are for those who think that vibrant diversity is something you need to pay money to see. It is illegal to transport live ants across state lines.

Black lives still matter.
