Just started ant keeping and am exited to look for my first queen (3rd queen actually but that is a long story)

Anyways, you should do fine. Many great anters who joined the forum as newbies ended up as formidable ant-keepers some time later.

Getting queen ant's will be easy for you since many ant keepers on this forum are from Socal.
