I'm looking for a queen ant local, I'm willing to pay a fair price. This would be my first time starting a ant farm so only easy types to take care of please.

I think Prenelopsis is a bit less prevalent along the west, not to mention aren't a very easy ant to keep.
I would suggest Tetramorium or a local Pheidole if you can get your hands on one.

In California they're about the only ants that can fight Argentine Ants. Why are they hard to keep?

Unless if I'm mistaken, it's because of their weird temperature requirements and overall really slow growers.

Just keep them below 70 degrees or so. Room temperature should suffice.

Not sure about Northern Cali, but here in Southern Cali, they are all over in the hills.

Yes I heard Prenolepis is flying and Tetramorium should start soon aswell. Not to be weird or anything but where do you live in the bay? I'm also a bay ant keeper.
