Location found - New Zealand north island in plant pot
Length - 7 millimetres

Solenosis geminata cannot be found in New Zealand.

Is invicta even in new zealand? On the ants of NZ website it says there's some pheidole and it just says solenopsis sp 1?

What the heck?! Stop randomly guessing... This is most definitely not a Solenopsis spp. Looks like Pheidole

That sure looks like a Pheidole sp to me. I don't think there are any species as dark as this queen, other than P.megacephala. But this id has to be taken with a grain of salt. we'll see what the workers look like.

Ok thanks could it be Huberia Striata ? Someone said they could be them on another forum. These queens are polygynous as there are about 7 of them in the same test tube.

I hadn't thought about H.striata and it's true it is also very plausible. Pheidole megacephala is also polygynous. Anyway, we'll see when the workers will come as Huberia sp doesn't have soldiers.

Yep, it shouldn't take too long as I have 2 of these queens together in a test tube which I caught a while ago and they have like 5 larvae. So hopefully they will hatch soon.

Yay! I've been wanting pheidole for awhile now! I'm amazed these queens actually survived. They have been in that test tube for about 4-5 months with no workers. I never fed them and now they have 2 workers one more is about to hatch soon!

I have another pheidole colony but it's not doing so well it has 4 majors and a few eggs. I hope they make it through, the queen of the 4 major colony is alot darker than these queens. Also I have a question the 2 queen colonys workers are really really small should I feed them a bit more than other nanitic because the queens have not had food for like 4 months?
