My one single Pogonomyrmex californicus bicolor decided to curl up, and die holding a large grain of sand...  :*(

At this point it is now a 100 percent chance of rain almost everywhere in the desert and has already rained at some of my favorite spots. I'm heading out on my anting excursions tonight and probably won't be back 'till Tuesday. Wish me luck. I better come back with something other than an empty gas tank!

I just found a Solenopsis sp. nest, and winged alates are visible in the entrance, how long does it take after a rain shower for them to decide to start flying?

I am not going to be able to make it to the Acromyrmex versicolor...  :( Oh well I wasn't prepared anyway to go. I wouldn't have been able to get any fungus...

What about Pheidole?

TONS of P. xerophila queens everywhere. A couple P. desertorum flew also.

How about a list of species that flew? I might try to go tomorrow.

Also, can I have specific locations which will be good to find them at?

I meant locations of Myrmecocystus mexicanus, mimicus, and the Pheidole.

Wait you didn't go to the Victorville/Phelan area at all?

Please reply, because right now I am planning to go to Devil's Punchbowl, Mountain View Rd, and the Victorville area at maximum, I do not have the time to make it to Joshua Tree National Park area. I do not know if Myrmecocystus, and the Pheidole flew there.

I literally dug probably a 3x4x4 foot hole trying to find a fungus chamber in the most mature colony I could find and had no luck. I uncovered some 30 workers only I have no idea why such a mature colony would have such a small population, also uncovered no brood, except a few unmated alates that decided not to fly. Were they deeper? I could have dug deeper but it got dark on me. seriously, all I need to feed is 3 queens, I will pay for even a small quantity of fungus.

Also, I caught too much Pogonomyrmex rugosus queens. If anyone wants a few just ask.

Did you actually go out to the spot near Joshua Tree? I'm pretty sure I already mentioned in a thread of mine that we tried to dig up the fungus, and it's impossible. I didn't know you were going out there the next day, I thought you said a month from now. I would have told you before you went out there to try not to disturb the area over my bucket traps, but it was not easy posting on the forum from my phone.

I didn't see bucket traps, and no it was not planned that I was going there, it was just a decision during the day...

I never read that thread...

The buckets are not visible, they are buried.
