Update 01-26-17

Some time since the last update, 2 more workers eclosed. Last night I decided to move the ants to a formicarium so I can watch them better, I was starting to get a little bit frustrated about them because I couldn't see them very well, I don't get to see they eating, their brood ... Now everything is great again, I recorded a short video to show their behavior, but I couldn't get rid of the glass reflection.

Update 02-03-17

They still growing slow but there's a lot of eggs and 3 larvae, not much to say but they seem to like the new nest, they blocked the entrance with dirt, I guess they feel safer that way.

That's both disgusting and awesome at the same time. The old-timey piano music sells it.

Would the song be the tune of the song, "By the Light of the Silvery Moon", perhaps?

Would have much change in one week, Pachycondyla grows very slowly. I think they ate the big larvae, I can't see it =(

Update 02-17-17

That larvae from the last update died(or they ate it), but now something odd is happening....

One of the larvae has been covered with sand, and the other larvae from the same age is now a cocoon. I wonder why they covered it with sand, and I'll create a post so we can try to figure out what's going on.

Post link: http://www.formicult...a-odd-behavior/

edit: the larvae covered with sand turned into cocoon now(morning of day 02-17-17(I updated in the dawn))

I would give all of your Pachycondyla colonies access to sand. My M. mimicus colonies loose a high percentage of their naked pupae. Some ants need sand/dirt for the pupae stage. Love this journal.

Update 04-09-17

The colony size doubled.

The last update was around 2 months ago, the colony doubled in size, now they have 6 workers, and the queen. They are growing very slowly because of their diet.

I will trade you my wonderful cat for this ant colony. I promise that he doesn't bite or urinate on your belongings. Ok, he bites. And urinates. Deal? Seriously, love this journal. Keep it up. Update more often. I am drooling now.

No, that's the test tube connected to it, where they get their water from. They usually move their brood into there sometimes a day.
