Hey  :D from california, and I've liked ants, since i was 5 years old. The first species of ant i had was pogonomyrmex barbatus, and it was in a gel farm when i was 5. It was queen less because i ordered it online. the species i have right now might be pogonomyrmex subnitidus, but i can't identify it  :( i got it in chatsworth, California and the flight time was June 21st, 9-12 am, which is also my birthday. i hear they never change so i kept that date for next year. Oh, and I'm Alza

Hello Alza! Welcome to the forum. Is the Pogonomyrmex subnitidus a colony or just a queen from this year?

I recently decided that what I thought was P.californicus, was actually P.subnitidus, and am still unsure. Mine however is not producing brood after I transferred her over to her current setup though, so I think I will boost it the next chance I have. She had larvae before, they just died.

 

Can you put the pictures of the workers eating the crickets up?

Welcome to the forum. :) Amazing how many Southern California people have come into this hobby this year. There's actually quite a few of them on this forum too, including myself. Based on where you found your Pogonomyrmex, I would say it is P. subnitidus if you can see spines on its thorax. If not, then it's probably the all-red P. californicus.

I would very much like like to go to these places: Florida, South Californa, Arizona, or Texas. And also I grew up in texas.

Arizona is probably the most interesting. It has everything california has, but also Odontomachus clarus and Atta mexicana...
