well just came in from shoveling snow and the Camponotus pennsylvanicus queen is awake. it took her ~40 hours to wake from her slumber

It sounds more like you didn't want to wait for your ants to have a full hibernation.
well its more of an experiment and that. i have an AC large omninest arriving around xmas and on January 14th (3 months) ill put my 3rd colony in that and see how much of a difference it makes

The point being that an experiment needs a certain, large number of test subjects in order to learn anything from it. Taking your pet queens out of hibernation right now only puts your colonies at risk without anything to gain but having moved them to a container that's more amusing for their keeper.
If you've enjoyed using my expertise and identifications, please do not create undue ecological risk by releasing your ants. The environment which we keep our pet insects is alien and oftentimes unsanitary, so ensure that wild populations stay safe by giving your ants the best care you can manage for the rest of their lives, as we must do with any other pet.
Exotic ants are for those who think that vibrant diversity is something you need to pay money to see. It is illegal to transport live ants across state lines.
