Wait what are those?

Mutated scarab beetles that will devour your flesh.  :D

No, truthfully, they are a dermestid beetle whose larvae are known to consume rotting flesh.  Sometimes called larder beetles.  You probably have seen them around your house before munching on flour, rice, or pet food.

He he, how are yours doing? [if you still have them??]

I found a few more beetles in my little brothers room, should look deeper in there, scared of what I might find! :o

Mine aren't doing much, the species I have seems to grow slowly.

Haven't looked at them much either, just stuck them and a bunch of cat food in a sandwich container and deposited them with my ant colonies in the heated fridge.

What's the point of a heated fridge, the milk would taste disgusting.

Unless it's like an incubator type thing.

I thought we had the same type, maybe mine grew so fast because I fed them meat some days, not often but I have fed them the odd hotdog. I also water mine every 3 days. I have moved them into a much bigger container and got this shot of one flying:

I don't know what happened but my Larder beetle colony just isn't doing well, only 30 Adults left, no larvae and at one point I was at 150+. At least I still have my Attagenus unicolor colony, which if anyone is interested in hearing about I can start a journal for them, since ant season is winding down here.

The Attagenus unicolor colony is doing okay, not great or over-populating the earth like I wanted, but doing better then the lardarius.

You should they are really fun once they get going, they are also good ant food [the larvae and pupae anyway, beetles don't have enough anything to them to really be good feeders.]

Where can I get some of these? Will Petsmart give them away? I found one of those beetles when buying from Petsmart.

You can find them under rugs and stuff up north I think, that's why they are called carpet beetles. :P

You can buy quite a few beetle species from this website.

I have ordered insects from them in the past and have had good experiences.

ha ha up North, that's not the only place to find them

If you look in your home for them I recommend looking in older rooms that haven't been checked in awhile. They like to hide in the dark areas so a flash-light helps. They look like little wormy things [that's the best describtion I have]

I don't have carpet and I am always looking everywhere because I like to see what I can find.

Hmm okay, do you have any rooms that aren't used often? Do you have friends that have carpets? [that would be weird though, hey man I'm here to check your carpets for carpet beetles.... you'll have so many friends after that :D ]

I wish you did too!

Maybe you'll get some more? You can ask at the pet store but I'm not 100% sure they will just give them away or if they have a stock of them.

Online stores sell them as "cleaner crews"
