So, I just made this formicarium out of tile grout in a brownie tray.

Problem is, the glass is sunk into the grout everywhere but the exit:

How do I get it out without breaking it?

Do you have a large suction cup?

Prying from one edge will almost certainly chip the glass or just crack it...looks pretty well stuck to that clay. Of course the suction cup idea would risk breaking the base of the nest. Kind of looks like you might be considering this a valuable learning experience no matter what the outcome.

Good luck!

Set the glass side of the nest as close as possible to a bright halogen lamp, wait for it to warm up the clay. This may make it soft enough to pull the glass...maybe. No idea if this would work but it's what I would try first.

I got it out in one piece. The clay didn't turn out to be a problem. It wasn't stuck to the glass, it stayed in the formicarium. (But it didn't stick there either, since I put oil on it before adding the grout.)

I poked a wooden skewer into the entrance and through that long tunnel to push the glass up more evenly.
