That's Lasius, especially with that coloration.

1. Location of collection: Grass behind a house

 

2. Date of collection: 19.09.2016

 

3. Habitat of collection: Grass, besides a garden

 

4. Lenght: 9mm-10mm, closer to 10mm

 

5. Coloration, hue, pattern and texture: see pictures

 

6. Distinguishing characteristics: see pictures

 

7. Anything else distinctive: see pictures

 

8. Nest description: haven't seen it

That is every bit of info I could have given guys, since I'm quite new to antkeeping. Would appreciate every bit of help in IDing this queen. Those pictures are as clear as I could get them to be.

I've had someone on the chat say it's a Formica spp. How would I tell those two apart? I'm quite new to this, so I'm trying to learn as much as I could :)

That's Lasius, especially with that coloration.


If you've enjoyed using my expertise and identifications, please do not create undue ecological risk by releasing your ants. The environment which we keep our pet insects is alien and oftentimes unsanitary, so ensure that wild populations stay safe by giving your ants the best care you can manage for the rest of their lives, as we must do with any other pet.

 

Exotic ants are for those who think that vibrant diversity is something you need to pay money to see. It is illegal to transport live ants across state lines.
