I might have been a little hasty in saying that, given their location. It looks like they got a nice haul of Solenopsis invicta.

the problem i have, is that they have been sitting in that container for about 10+ hours. they fidget at best, and some try to move around but as if their gaster is stuck in that V shape. will they recover? or are they dying?

Rinse them in clean water then take them out, gently... they were already in the pool, so it would be good to wash off the chlorine. Ants can survive days in water, but can take many days to fully recover, or even "wake up". Some of your ants may be doomed, but I'm sure a bunch will survive.

Hit "Like This" if it helped.

What's "extreme" about the salt method? The salt draws the water out of an insect's spiracles through osmosis, greatly speeding recovery and probably saving some individuals that would've died if you left them alone. It doesn't harm them or anything.

No. I mean if you kept them constantly exposed to salt they would dehydrate, but temporarily placing a drowned ant in dry salt is harmless.

What evidence do you have for this working to successfully revive previously 'drowned' ants?

I invite you to experiment. Drown some ants, put some of them in salt, see which recover faster. It works.
