Sounds like some sort of Ponerine and, probably semi-claustral. Maybe not a vampire ant species. Ponerines tend to have some pretty wicked jaws, though (in my opinion they always have the longest jaws).

Add some sugar water as well, not just protein. My tetramorium kept on eating her eggs until she had a steady supply of sweets and proteins.

 

Also, if her abdomen is elongated and looks similar to a two scoop ice cream cone (texture wise) the ponerine ID is probably correct.

She died, my helper dropped the testube and It got smashed, then my helper vacuumed her up
I'll have to wait till autumn =(

I can relate to what happened with you Leo. Once, in Ohio, I dropped a fish bowl full of diving beetles. My parents had to throw them away... Sad...
