Well, found her on the driveway while I was filling up the lawnmower's tires...

I found a C. Americanus dealate a couple weeks ago too...  surprised me a bit as didn't think they flew this late.  However wondering if the drought up here is messing them up.  She had (and still does) another Camponotus head (no body) biting down hard to one of her antenna.  She definitely had a rough night.

Yeah, I've seen a few late Camponotus wondering around, and we have also had a very dry summer.

Grasping the head of her foe, that is pretty cool. Keeping it as a reminder to all.

I agree with C americanus because the head is too dark for castaneus
