Location: Trabuco Canyon, CA

Date: 6/17/16

Time:8:15

 

Found found this girl as an alate early in the night around 8:15 using a black light(removed wings 6/19/16). The only other L. occidentale i caught that night was infected with phorid flies. post-115-0-97505000-1466370747.jpg

For some reason this will be the hardest time for your colony. Liometopum have this annoying problem where they like to die after a couple months.make sure you feed them a variety of things to ensure they are provided the proper nutrition. Hope this colony does well.

In my experience, if you don't constantly feed the workers some liquid sweets, they'll start to die off.  Maybe that's what you're referring to?

Yeah, at this stage they usually intake a lot more food than other ants. If they aren't provided enough they can work themselves to death.
