I've been interested in Ants since I was young. Originally from the UK, but I moved out to Australia and have been here for 15 years or so.

When I was young I made a Formicarium from plaster of Paris (back in the 80's!), but I did not know how to get a Queen.

No internet back then and I could not find any books.

Now I have started to kick start some old hobbies and interests as I have more time and money, so I've got back in Reptile keeping (Pygmy Bearded Dragon at the moment).

Next on my list is to do Ant Keeping correctly!

Carebara Affinis is at the top of my list, I love the polymorphic species and this one is the King!

A good Pheidole species would be a an easier option, just because I still have some reading to do on what limitations there are getting a QLD species to NSW.

Just like there are some restrictions with my reptile licence, I'm sure I'll discover restrictions with getting some Ant species.

Australia takes it's quarantine and inter border species issues seriously, so I will work out how to operate within the law here!

Once I'm confident, I also like Bull Ants and Honey Pot Ants and those I consider more advanced. So once I get two or three colonies going for my first choice, I'll look at these next.

Welcome. :) I have quite a few honeypot ant colonies. They're definitely my favorite ants.

Welcome.  I never would have guessed that Australia had intra-country transport regulation as well.  I thought that kind of thing was limited to the good ole U S of A.

There are only restrictions in Western Australia. You can import and export from all other states in Australia. Check out my blog for some great info regarding Australian ants and ant keeping in general.
