Giving queens without workers protein

I have a 28 queen colony of Solenopsis molesta. on 8/17/2016 I noticed they were eating a deceased queen. I decided to give them a small 1/4" cricket and they ate almost the entire thing leaving behind just the head. I just got done feeding them another cricket and I watched one of the queens drag the cricket over to the brood and other queens from the front of the test tube. I thought Solenopsis molesta are fully claustral. Has anyone else ever had this happen?

There are the variables of having the cricket already in their claustral chamber and being with 27 other queens. :P


If you've enjoyed using my expertise and identifications, please do not create undue ecological risk by releasing your ants. The environment which we keep our pet insects is alien and oftentimes unsanitary, so ensure that wild populations stay safe by giving your ants the best care you can manage for the rest of their lives, as we must do with any other pet.

 

Exotic ants are for those who think that vibrant diversity is something you need to pay money to see. It is illegal to transport live ants across state lines.
