Caught this pogonomyrmex queen and I wanted to start a journals to keep track of the brood developments and hopefully one day have her as a successful colony!

Here’s a photo of the 2 queens I caught but will be only showing one of the queens to reduce stress on the other . Or I will be switching back and forth if I can get a shot of the one in the mini hearth.

Here an update I took on 4/7/18
I’m not a professional or have the best camera but bare with me
The queen seem to be doing pretty good with her brood this was when she just started laying.
Been giving her cricket legs and some seeds which she happily took for the first time out of all the years I had Pogonomyrmex
queens that actually took the cricket leg I gave her! Seems to be going well for now .

Update on 4/15/18, By the way I’m just going by the date I took the pictures on my phone, so it might be a little weird or how fast these Pogonomyrmex grew.
Didn’t brood boost any of the Pogonomyrmex queens I have at all. But overall about a week later her eggs hatched into tiny larvae. She’s still eating
her seeds and the crickets legs and pinheads I give her. I found that this species is a plus when they have humidity and heat together will make their brood grow faster.

Here’s my update on this queen over all she has 1 pupa 3 larvae and one large batch of eggs. Hopefully more to come ! Small update

Whoa that's actually really fast, 16 days from egg to pupa? What temperature are you keeping these in? 

 

I wonder if there was larvae by April 7th that weren't with the eggs.

I agree, that is some very fast brood development. Whatever you are doing, keep it up!

I would say it took about 3 weeks from egg to pupa. Another update! The queen now has 2 pupa. I keep them on a heat mat that is 5 Watts I would say maybe about 85 degrees, I'm kinda confused myself lol. But from what I think . The eggs probably hatched 1 week and a half and took about 1 week to grow to a certain size and that 5 days later to turn into a pupa . Today’s the 23 so yeah about 3 weeks . I just make sure the heat mat is working and humidity is up and seeds and proteins for them, nothing special for them.

Here’s my update on my other queen in a mini hearth, caught same day as the other queen I been posting about! They have about the same amount of brood. Both are looking like they are doing well!

Update ! Just notice how many larvae this queen has! So organized as well . Well that’s all for today, probably stressed them out a lot already . Don’t want to jinx it but the queens don’t seem to eat there pupae at all. Maybe some of the eggs bu over all they don’t eat the larvae, which tends to happen when the queens get stress out a lot.

What is she housed in?

Not sure what she’s in but she’s in a container with a water tower. That Jeffrey gave me. But her first worker enclosed yesterday night but I didn’t get a picture of the newly enclosed worker!
