Idk if it's possible or not, but some of my gaming forums used a ticker on the side of the forums. This allowed users to post random things or updates that don't necessarily need a whole thread, but maybe some kind of audience. Perhaps some examples that would be on there would be: Flights gearing up to happen in certain areas, individual anting success, or simple updates that are happening around the anting world.

 

At first i was thinking that maybe the chatroom could use a Previous chat, or chat history so a user could post something and come back without having to leave the page open. This would be nice, but not as effective as a ticker would be.

 

Any thoughts?

You will need to provide a concrete example, such as a link to a forum or site which has the feature you wish to be implemented here.  That is the only way dspdrew will understand.

Nah, I think he's talking about one of those shout box things.

Shoutbox is prolly the best way of putting it. They're usually smaller and fit in a box the size of the Recent theads/posts area.
