I just took these guys out of hibernation. Looks like not a single worker died.

Have kept many other ant species but now keep over 100 tarantulas and other inverts! Mantids, centipedes, and scorpions to name a few 😁

Well, guess I clicked wrong button b4 commenting lol but nice colony. I have an Aphaenogaster fulva colony and they are roughly 20 strong. Doing better than I thought after I took them out. What do you feed yours?

Aha! This must be the species of Aphaenogaster that is literally everywhere where I live. I plan on catching a young colony of these soon.

Update 10-4-2017
This colony has been doing quite well. A few days ago I counted about 180 workers, but something in the air killed off tons of my colonies the other day; I'm not sure what it was. The colony is now at about 100 workers.

Update 1-13-2018
This colony has gone down in size even more. They are now around 70 workers. I just put them into hibernation for the winter.

Are these polygynous? I’m just wondering, as Ants_Dakota claims that they are abundant in the Black Hills, and he may just snag me a colony from under a rock next time he’s over there.
