Hi I found a fairly large queen ant in Alberta, Canada, about 1.7 cm long and I would like to know what species it is.
thanks for taking your time to answer!
It is most likely Camponotus herculeanus, which just recently had a flight.
There's also Camponotus modoc and C. vicinus right? I'm not hugely familiar with west coast Camponotus, but I know C. herculeanus can be distinguished by it's hair coverage. Close views of the front of the head and the thorax, from the side, would be useful.

If you've enjoyed using my expertise and identifications, please do not create undue ecological risk by releasing your ants. The environment which we keep our pet insects is alien and oftentimes unsanitary, so ensure that wild populations stay safe by giving your ants the best care you can manage for the rest of their lives, as we must do with any other pet.
Exotic ants are for those who think that vibrant diversity is something you need to pay money to see. It is illegal to transport live ants across state lines.

Black lives still matter.
does anybody know if this species of queen is fully or semi cholesterol
Thanks
The Camponotus we have here in Alberta are fully claustral.
Mads
I found one of these queens too. Planning on making a cool natural wood nest for her.
