Found this colony of relatively large ants covering a big fallen tree trunk in the Sepulveda Dam wildlife area off of Burbank Boulevard in the San Fernando Valley. The head and abdomen are black, the abdomen seemed fuzzy or had whitish texture or shiny-ness on it, and the thorax was red. They resemble a liometopum picture i saw on AlexanderWild.com (http://www.alexander...topum/i-d9pQD2F), but i think they also look like some camponotus pics I've seen.
