My recently collected Aphaenogaster colony only has a few larvae. I've fed them both live termites and pieces of dead insects. The workers carry the prey into the nest, then place it in a different part of the nest from the larvae and proceed to ignore it. Sometimes they move it around a little bit, but they don't bring it to the larvae or bring larvae to it. Are they saving it for later, or are they bringing it into the nest for no reason and then treating it as garbage?
