Just wanted to share how nice the myrmecology equipment is now since I last keep colonies in the late 80's, early 90's! Back then, I used Tupperware! Or aquariums too. So much cool and useful stuff now it's crazy! I'm glad to be getting back into the hobby.

Funny thing is for some reason it seems most people in this hobby still prefer formicariums made out of used sandwich containers and Mc Donalds straws.

Some people are just sooooo cheap that aesthetics don't matter to them. I'm pretty cheap...but I like things to look nice too haha

Yeah for most people it seems like paying more than five dollars is just out of the question.

I'm really liking the THA stuff. Very practical, useful, professional looking stuff.

A lot of people in this hobby are kids with extremely limited resources. A five dollar purchase is a major financial decision in those circumstances. I know it was for me when I started. Hard to convince your parents to give you enough money to bring gross bugs into the house rather than killing all of them everywhere on the property as is the normal way of things.

Yeah I know. I'm talking about people I know are adults.

No I'm not! I do like the THA products for different species and the fact I can have them custom built based on my own research for the species I am maintaining. The only advise i have is ensure the THA nests (nucleus series or pinnacle) have another nest port in the bottom of the nest for a larger foraging area.

My only issue with THA stuff while i think they look great, is that they don't look too complicated and with a little ingenuity could save a hundred dollars or more by doing it myself. In practice tho my stuff never looks as good. I am still of the opinion tho that if i ever get a good colony going I'll go all out on a visually stunning piece.

Whether it's THA or AntsCanada or ByFormica(which I like a lot), they all are so much better than the 'old days' of scavenging my Mom's Tupperware collection.
