Been around for a while I guess, I should introduce myself. I'm kristopher, a noob ant keeper. I've been kind researching and learning for about a little over a year and finally started to get some colonies started. I hope they are successful as they are my, slightly different daughter's, idea. My hope is for a Pogonomyrmex colony but last year I witnessed a flight but never saw any land. This year hopefully things change although I may move to Tomball which is less arid and I have never seen any around there.

I think I missed a good flight of them allready. My niece has a pool so I've got her on the look out there. Not sure I want them tho. They seem neat but the nest might be difficult.

Hello and good luck with the hobby! lots of information here for inexpensive setups. I recommend something basic before jumping in and buying something expensive.

True. 90% casualty is not uncommon for Atta texana queens. Pogonomyrmex barbatus would be a better choice if you are looking for something easier.

We have two large species of camponotus, and one small species of camponotus. Two have eggs, one I am still waiting on. We had a tetramorium colony but they were too hard to contain.
