Hey guys, I've never seen any camponotus species where I live(southern orange county). Any tips on where to find a colony or someone to buy ants from? Its hot and like a desert out here, I rarely see rotted logs to look for C. Colonies

Most California Camponotus you will see anywhere are ground nesting. There should be flights in the next month or so and you just have to get lucky to run into them.

You are only going to find Camponotus out in the hills and the forests around here. Some species have actually already started flying.

Not entirely true, in Southern california Camponotus clarithorax is a very common house infesting ant pretty much everywhere.

I know they are probably simple to find. Like all ants thet have their sweet spots. Certain areas of a forest hold certain types of ants. If only a local could show me lol

I should have said places near the hills too. But are you saying they've been found in places far from the hills? Places similar to Huntington Beach or areas like that?

Pretty much, I have found that species in down town Long Beach and other places.

Wow, I had no idea. That's pretty cool. Maybe not for the people trying to get them out of their house, but at least they're native, unlike most everything else you see in the city.
