Hi. I am Martin but mostly I am called Mac.

Up until now insects did not exactly belong to my domain which would be neuropathobiology, ethology and cognitive biology.

However, I started thinking about ant farms and started to do some research about vintage designs and modern designs. Naturally, questions arose and while looking for answers I stumbled across Formiculture.com. My main interest is the genus Myrmecocystus of which I hope to be able to keep a colony in the near future.

Welcome! I love Myrmecocystus, but as far as I know, you guys don't have Myrmecocystus there in Austria.

That's true.

But here in Austria I would have the means to get a queen. My plan to move to Canada around the beginning of 2015 might complicate things a little and I guess I will have to settle for an alternative but for some reason I still have hope. :)

Welcome!

I live in Canada, we do not have Myrmecocystus, but some areas do have prenolepis imparis (false honey ant).

Bringing queens over the Canadian border isn't allowed, but we can ship ants anywhere inside Canada (the ants just can't cross the Canadian border).

There are 93 species in Alberta alone, so there is probably something that may catch your eye.
