I've had a hard time figuring out what these are. Denmark has a very low biodiversity when it comes to ants and I have never come across anything quite like these. I hope someone can help.

Location: On the island of Fyn (Funen), in the city of Gersø, near Odense Fjord.

Date: 2016-04-14

Habitat: In the outskirts of a small treeline, leading out to a bunch of fields. Not far from the coast.

Length: About 4 mm.

Coloration, hue, pattern and texture: Shiny black, with a slight hint of brown on the legs and antenna. Very smooth and bald.

Distinguishing characteristics: Single petiole node. Very large square'ish head. The gaster curves in and becomes quite pointy at the tip. Very small eyes, almost indistinguishable from the rest of the head.

Other distinguishing features: Slightly clumsy. Bad climbers. My uncle, who grew up in the area, says that they've been in the same spot for around 30 years (polygyn colony?).

Nest description: Old dry log.
