that's what it appears to be, spiders that mimic ants are quite common in the U.S.
What a wanna-be Crematogaster!
I saw one of these the other day and it was about the size of a bicolor pogonomyrmex californicus ant, so I followed it for a while (since I carry around a bag of raw sunflower seeds to boost wild colonies reserves), and finally I got my head straight and realized I was scaring some poor spider to death by following it. They are surprisingly well adapted to look like big bad ants, so I kept the little guy and have him in a big formicarium setup just because I thought it was so unique. To ID it for you, it is a Peckhamia jumping spider.
Here's a link with some interesting info about them. http://www.iflscienc...hunt-their-prey

A question that sometimes drives me hazy: am I or are the others crazy?
Thanks Shaye for the link and ID!!! The spider already built a little nest in the deli cup:)
Here in Canada I've seen some that are black and seem to be be copying formica.
