This may be a year to late, but i have heard from a german friend who keep Acromyrmex that while the fungus grows it releases huge amounts of carbon dioxide (i think, may have mixed up which gas is which)
So that may be the reason your ant got their "drunken" behavior.

Their natural nest are apparently well ventilated with different tunnels.

Wonderful colony btw, very envious 😃

This is an amazing journal!

Something about Acromyrmex makes me think of a mix between Pheidole and Aphaenogaster.

Pics? Also, isn't it time for your colony to produce alates?

Proverbs 6:6-8 New International Version (NIV)

Go to the ant, you sluggard;
    consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
    no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
    and gathers its food at harvest.

I guess its a growth spurt! My old O. glaber colony went from twenty workers to one, and then made a remarkable comeback (30 workers)
