If you weren't having such an unusual winter, I think they would be flying by now.
Usually my Aunt in Sarnia (not far from Toronto) has her tulips in full bloom by now - and last I heard she still has snow!

Yeah I thought they would be flying now too but we still have snow on the ground. It's suppose to be spring already.

Keep an eye out on really warm days - I suspect they won't be long in flying. They are flying down south, and the northern ones seem to fly within 2 weeks of the southern ones.

It's still winter in full force here. We were down to almost -18 degrees C the other night! There's still a bunch of snow here too ... and I probably won't see any ants for quite some time. Blah!

I would typically see them fly on days near or warmer than 21 degrees C with a light wind.

I saw a picture on Facebook of Formica rufa, taken in Bulgaria this week (1st wk of April, 2014). Definitely warmer in Europe than here this winter.

Alberta is more or less right on track. We don't truly count it spring until the May long weekend, because we often get frost and snow up to that point.
I can't tell you how many times we went camping on May long weekend to wake up to 8" of snow outside of our tent. That is probably why we stopped camping on that weekend.
Not many ants are active here yet, just the Formica on the warmer days.
