Currently Keeping:
Trachymyrmex septentrionalis
Pheidole pilifera
Forelius sp. (Monogynous, bicolored) "Midwestern Forelius"
Crematogaster cerasi
Pheidole bicarinata
Aphaenogaster rudis
Camponotus chromaiodes
Formica sp. (microgena species)
Nylanderia cf. arenivega
My new 'pico formicarium' project has finished ;
This one.
IMHO of course.
Is that made in a BoxBox container?
Love these!
Where are you getting your plants from?
Amazing design!
Very cool setup. Is the foundation some sort of hand-carved styrofoam with sand glued to it, or is it something more complicated?
(It helps if I look at the whole thread before posting..........................)

What do you use to shape the ytong (specifically the little "pico" ones)?
What I mean is, do you just take a ytong block, and use some power tool (what?) to cut it into a small enough piece, then carve out the chambers (using what)?
Do you have any pictures of any of these once occupied? In particular the most recent one, or the one from 18 January?
I would really like to see them in action.
How do you get the substrate so earthy and natural looking? are you using grout ? are you painting it? Please share! it looks fantastic!

Woah! Great job on these, they all look great! I have to admit I like the first design the most. It would make a great nest for a queen that is Semi-Claustral or a really small colony. Is that hydration system working out for you?

Nop. I'm using plaster mixing with brown cloth paint. Spraying sand or soil, adding plastic/fake plants. That's all Thanks!!
Just a few questions because that nest is neat (no. 6). Where did you get the tub from? What material is being used for the formicarium and how does the hydration system work? Thank you.
Josh
Bought from IKEA. I'm using plaster for all my formicariums. If asking number 6, for hydration i used 'just' test tube method. Thanks!

Thanks WalkerNom. Which one ? i mean which hydration system ?
Also stay away from Crematogaster sp. they can chew through cork and escape. Nice looking formicarium.
Most likely any ant can chew through cork.
