Does anyone know if temperature fluctuations have an effect on hibernation/diapause?


I have a smaller sized colony that's in diapause. Their legs are tucked in and they don't wake up when I check on them. Temps are in low 60's during the day, mid 50's at night. Since they don't wake up when I check on them; are the Temps okay?

Can warmer weather affect them even if they don't "wake up"?

First of all, what species? 

Second, what is the winter weather like in your location?

 

My colonies have no problem with temperature fluctuations.  Most of mine hibernation between 50-54F (keep in mind my location gets -40 weather in winter).

Oops sorry about that. Camponotus Pennsylvanicus.

I moved them to the closet where it doesn't warm up as much during the day. The Temps now stay in the 50's and doesn't fluctuate as much. I probably could have left them where they were since there wasn't any negative effects that I could see.

Right now in NJ, it's in the upper 50's and even mid 60's this weekend. Very mild winter so far.
