That's a nice sized looking colony! I like Lasius species, since the queens are so much bigger then the workers!

Good luck with them :D

Today movie from lasius fuliginosus. I found the Queen and I adopted for workers l. niger. Within a week I'll make a post with all the colonies moved to new nests. Messor is already ok. 100 workers, niger 200-300.

Alexant- Worker Lasius niger and cocoons for adoption of the Queen of lasius fuliginosus I collected from wild nests. Workers with the Queen, I put in the refrigerator.  Workers accepted the Queen.

Foogoo- Messor barbarus feed seeds flax, poppy, sunflower and pumpkin.  They get also flies.

I would definitely like to hear more about Messor barbarus as i have a small colony on the way. I have read they are notorious for eating through ytong so I'm curious how you overcome that. Also how moist/dry do they like their nest?

Small colonies not eating by ytong. Larger will drill, but this will be done when the colony grows. My Messor at this time not digging in the slot.

¼ part of the socket is moist. Like more reside in parts of the dry than wet.
