I put a straw with water in it. I found this species usually nesting at dry environment outside.

Thanks. The queen is quite aggressive with the nest protection.

The moss is from the garden, well trimmed. The queen already took some into the nest. It is funny how the queen peeking through the center while she didn't realise the whole nest is exposed for viewing.

The cluster of eggs have increased in number and queen has some nannies to look after them.

A comparison of the queen and the worker. It appears that the queen is bigger than the worker overall.

Well, the hot weather has killed off the low horizontal growing plant. This formicarium does require constant care. On another hand, lots workers have eclosed and the number of eggs has increased too.

Do these ants even have major workers?

Never heard of major worker in this species, but that worker does have unusual head and jaw. I think the issue is, they all look so similar, therefore so hard to tell.

No major workers in this species. The workers are monomorphic.

But in some monomorphic species the workers have a distinct size dimorphism. Meaning there are small to large workers but all with the same shape.

Pheidole on the other hand are polymorphic, the majors looking quite differed compared to minor workers.

Sorry, but I got interested into this by my Myrmecia colonies.

The workers vary greatly in size but are considered as monomorphic. So I did a bit of research on this topic.

Interesting. I also notice the minor workers of my Pheidole differs in some way. It could be due to different nutrition at the larvae stage or build for different purpose. On another hand, could be just other species got mixed into the raid in this case.

The formicarium is a mess, otherwise the larvae are feeding well.

The larvae are chubby, the colony is hungry, very hungry. Here are some photos showing the hunting of the mosquitoes. They have also teamed up and killed a good size house fly.

I have relocated the colony to the garden outside. It is now inside a water bottle. Initially, the black ants outside have taken over their territory when they were attracted to the left over foods. But now the green-head ants have regain the control after the recent rain, as it may have seen.

How are they now?

Hi, thanks for asking. They are doing well I think, below are some photos I took today. I had to kill a fly to lure more of them out. I usually just dump rotten fruits in the water bottle and there are lots diversity of insects. There are even spiders prey on the ants and flies. can't really see the inside of the nest on the side though, but lots ants running around. It is more like a jungle in there now, I had pull out some seedlings.

I have found another queen under the brick. They develop really fast. But 2 nanitic workers drown from the condensation. At moment the queen is raising another set of brood and I have moved her to a drier container.
