I was asked by a friend to post this ID for him.

 

Location: Thailand

Coloration: red head and thorax, black gaster

Gaster seems kind of flattened

7-9mm

got first workers within weeks.

I have no clue what it is but that is one cool looking ant

Just a quick question does it have one petiole node thingy or two? I can't really tell. I'm assuming it has 1..

He finally managed to get a good side view.  Only one node, and the colony is growing fast.

Anyone have any clues?

My guess is Philidris.
