Greetings Formiculture users!
RushmoreAnts and I have been working on a really fun YouTube series that we hope will bring a smile or two to your face and inform you about what happened over the past month on Formiculture. We are calling it The Formiculture Monthly Review. We are hoping to release this series monthly, but editing takes a lot of time, so we can not guarantee it. That being said, RushmoreAnts and I are already streamlining our editing processes, and we would love to hear your thoughts on what we have so far! With that, we present The Formiculture Monthly Review for April 2025.

Very cool video! Thanks for taking the time to make it!

I wish I had some more interesting journals but at the moment I only have small colonies. I have been doing lots of hiking for birdwatching and found lots of interesting queens while hiking around Placerita Canyon. Sadly I didn't bring any catching equipment as I didn't expect any ants to be flying. I hope I find the time to go back because I found workers of Formica, Camponotus, Pogonomyrmex, and lots of other small species I didn't identify. Too bad I left the macro lens at home!

This was fun - I don't look through all the journals religiously so it was neat to see what everyone is up to in a more condensed format. Thanks for doing this!

Thank you! Well you were our only miscellaneous journal so I would not be too sad. Yeah, ant queens come whenever you are least expecting. I usually bring a plastic water bottle or two on any hike if I forget snap cap vials.

Thank you Nare! We designed the notable journals section with that exact scenario in mind, so glad someone has already benefited!

Don't worry, we will look at all journals posted every month that we review, so as long as yours are high quality and we are not overloaded we will get them in there!

I am not sure flame is the word, RushmoreAnts extrapolated things slightly to hopefully bring a smile to people's face. The intent was not at all malicious.

I just rushed through the video right now and I saw that there were some journal updates. Is it just popular journals or big updates? Anyways I am feeling motivated to update my Formica journal, big things happened. (Also because I might get to be in the video again hehehehehehe    :warning:)

No need for apologies, that segment was meant to be humorous overdramatization.

It's usually established, popular, professional journals, or ones that have something else unique/profound about them. Next month we're limiting the number of journals to 15 (we did 18 this time, that was too much), so we'll be slightly more picky if there's even 15 journals next month.

RushmoreAnts and I are discussing it right now, we have decided to include at max the 15 most Professional (text and photos/videos), Established, and Unique/special circumstances/notable occasions. Write your journals accordingly if you want to get into it!
